Walburga Appleseed likes her wine rich, her chocolate dark, and her fiction short.
Fun facts:
- Walburga is a Germanic name with connotations to witches – ‘Walpurgisnacht’ being a kind of German Halloween, the night when the witches fly…
- Walburga hails from Switzerland, but swapped the Swiss mountains for the Cambridgeshire fens some twenty years ago. She hasn’t looked back, but still misses proper chocolate.
- Walburga Appleseed also writes for children – under the blatant pseudonym of Anita Lehmann.
Walburga won the 2018 Geneva Literary Prize for Non-Fiction, and the 2016 Winchester Literary Festival Award for Flash Fiction. Her work (both for children and adults) has been short- and longlisted for various competitions over the years, including the Bridport Prize (shortlist 2020) and Fish Flash Fiction (2014, 2016) competitions.
From 2016-2019, she worked as associate editor for Vestal Review.
